Thanksgiving 2014 - Part 1

We are down in St. George for Thanksgiving this year. We were originally going to be playing in a soccer tournament down here over the break but that was cancelled. But, since we had the house open, we decided to come down anyway. We brought Jason with us and Jeff's parents too. The weather hasn't been too warm but warm enough (compared to up North). We've been close to 70 degrees each day.

We spent the first morning on a little rock hounding adventure across the border into Arizona down a dusty dirt road while Jeff went golfing with a friend. Jason found a spot to find gypsum and they loved finding different rocks. We ended it with our $2 6" subway sandwich picnic out on the rocks. Later we came home and spent some time in the pool. It wasn't quite up to temperature so we mostly spent time in the hot tub but the kids braved the 72 degree pool for at least a few minutes. We ended the night with an hour or so of "The Farming Game," taking me back to my childhood in Washington!

This morning we started off with a little Gobbler 5k with the whole family. The kids all did great! Isaac ran with Jason and Calvin and kept up the whole way, ending up around 26 minutes. Jeff ran with Kira and Kate who mostly ran the whole time, ending up around 36 minutes. Jeff was a little bummed not to be able to really run it. He's been running a ton lately and kind of wanted to actually RUN, but he was a good Dad and encouraged the girls. Mikey was my buddy and we started off pretty good. He ran the first 3/4 mile at a pretty good clip but then as he was passing someone he slipped on the gravel and scraped up his hands pretty good. He cried for a minute or two. I offered to carry him on my shoulders but he wanted to walk. But he didn't feel like running anymore, so we ended up walking most of the rest of the way until the last 1/4 mile or so when we could see the finish line. Grandma and Grandpa came to cheer us on at the finish line and that gave Mikey a good little shot in the arm at the end and he sprinted across the finish line. He felt pretty good after he finished. While we were walking, Mikey was pretty sad and didn't want to talk much. So I told him I would squeeze his hand 3 times and that meant "I love you." So he squeezed mine back 4 times and told me it meant "I love you too." We did that back and forth while we held hands and walked (even when we ran). It sure was cute. I love having a little guy still.

We came home and swam in the pool. Later we made a delicious Thanksgiving meal, grateful for all we are blessed with. I loved having the kids help in the kitchen. After a little evening nap, we played "Nerts," watched football and Jeff and the little boys did a little night swim.

Sweet headbands!

Family selfie in the pool on Thanksgiving Day! Tell me again why we don't live here?

Gypsum. The pioneers used to make windows out of this stuff. Grandpa told the kids when we got home that his mom (their Great-Grandma) lived in a home with gypsum windows when she was a girl.

Aspiring geologist! :)

The kids LOVE having Jason around. He's like the cool big brother.
