What a Week!

What a week it's been!

Today we had the best day! We are in St. Louis today. We drove from Nauvoo yesterday and stopped by Hannibal, MO for a steamboat ride on the Mississippi (cool but a bit slow and I spent most of my time following the 2 little boys around the boat making sure they weren't bothering people) and a tour through Mark Twain's cave (which was awesome! Our tour guide "Morgan" was great and told us about all the "Tom Sawyer" sites).

Nauvoo was really awesome. They had amazing shows, lots of activities for the kids and we learned a lot. I'll write all about that another day.

Today was a great day! We got up, ate the free breakfast buffet at the hotel and then hopped in the car ready for a little adventure. We ended up starting out at the St. Louis Zoo which is FREE....nice! We walked around the zoo, rode the zoo train, pet the goats, saw the lions, tigers, bears, oh my! The kids were so good. They got a bit tired. It was hot. But they were really, really good. *sigh*

After the zoo we were supposed to get lunch but ended up in downtown St. Louis at the City Museum with no place around to eat. We had wanted to go to the museum but meant to eat first since it was 1pm and the kids were starving. Once they saw the museum though, they forgot all about food. This place was unlike anyplace we'd ever been. There were passageways, caves, slides, ladders, treehouses, whales and old shoe shafts. It was an old shoe factory turned into an amazingly creative, ingenious, artistic, and at times claustrophobic, playground for kids young and old. It was hard to keep track of the kids in all the twists and turns (some of which only kids could fit through), especially when you're chasing an almost 4 year old. There was no way I could keep up with Isaac and the older three were mostly fine on their own. Isaac kept up with the older kids just fine. It was so fun. We got there at 1, no one even took a break until 4pm. By that time the museum closed in an hour so we just kept on going. Not a single complaint even though we skipped lunch! They all got along so well, had so much fun and we had so much fun watching and following them.

Afterwards we drove past the Peace Arch, hopped out and took a photo. We toyed with the idea of parking but when Jeff pulled into the parking garage and saw that it was $9 to park, he put it in reverse and backed out. All we (I) really wanted was a snapshot. Not worth $9. We just parked in the tow-away zone for 5 minutes while the kids jumped out, sat on the lawn and I snapped the picture. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at Steak and Shake for dinner. It's a little local fast-food style diner/hamburger joint with a waiter. A little more expensive than McDonalds but the food was good and the kids loved the atmosphere. I was so happy that they were well behaved, had fun, laughed and all got along!

Then tonight after showers and some downtime, I read the first chapter of Tom Sawyer to the kids before saying prayers and going to bed.

A perfect day! I wish all days were like this. But then maybe I wouldn't really appreciate them. :)

Isaac hammin' it up! I love that kid when he's in a good mood! :)

Happy family! Yay!

Peace out!
My self-portrait. Jeff and the kids are always telling me I take WAY too many pictures. I do. Someday they will love it!
