Flashback

(Written earlier today)

Today Calvin had a soccer practice at the Smith Fieldhouse at BYU. It was my turn to drive carpool so I packed up a few things, picked up the boys and headed down to Provo. It's too far to go home in between drop off and pick up so I figured I'd just stay and explore campus. I walked through the MOA and the HFAC and headed up to the 5th floor of the library. I'm in the old section and it looks exactly the same as it did 20 years ago. Talk about a flashback! Here I sit, alone in my little cubicle by the window. It is completely silent—only the sound of my pencil on paper. It's been years since I've had this kind of quiet and solitude. I picked up a book about a French-Canadian artist named Fortin and am slowly leafing through the pages of his beautiful, bold landscapes. I have one hour left. I'm going to sketch, study Spanish and read. It's glorious! I feel 20 again!

After my youthful reminiscing and peaceful solitude I decided to take one more trip down memory lane and stop by the Twilight Zone for an apple (I used to get a bagel but the years and the carbs have caught up with me so now it's an apple) but they were sold out.

It was so fun to be on campus again. I think it was especially strange because I was alone. My BYU experience was awesome. I'm really grateful for that time in my life. It helped me prepare for who and where I am now in life. Now I'm looking forward to that time for my kids. Crazy!
