Day 5: Welcome to Wengen

Back to back travel days. Today we took the Golden Pass Railway from Zurich to Interlaken and then on up the mountain to Wengen. The sights were beautiful! I really love train travel. At the end of the day I find myself rocking, just like after being on the boat all day. It lulls me to sleep.

Our little chalet in Wengen is perfect. It feels like a dream, everything is so beautiful! The directions I got at the little check-in office by the train station were: "walk up the main street until you come to the pharmacy. Turn right at the pharmacy and then stay right again at the cheese shop. At the top of the hill, look to your left and you'll find a building with the door open." Sure enough, we found it!

The village of Wengen is adorable. It feels like a European Eagles Mere. There is a cute public swimming pool with a little sweet shop. In the center of town there is a tram going to the top of the mountain, a soccer field, two clay tennis courts, a mini golf course  and an ice rink (not open in the summer). No cars are allowed except for the little hotel transports. There are playgrounds dotted all over the little village, and of course fountains flowing fresh, cold, clean mountain water. There are little restaurants all over, little bakeries and shops. There are lots of boutique hotels and chalet apartments and little chalet homes with little woodpiles and gardens. The views of the Alps (Eiger, Monch and Junfrau) from the deck are incredible! There are fields and cows with cowbells all around us as well. It feels so safe and peaceful and rejuvenating. We LOVE it!!

Isaac immediately went straight down to the soccer field and played with the neighbor kids there until it was time for dinner.

I love all of the water fountains!

Wengen.

We tried making fondue for dinner tonight. It mostly tasted like stinky socks, but hey...at least we tried. Everything is SO EXPENSIVE so we thought we could save some money by cooking at home. We did save money but it was dee-sgusting. We even tried making spaghetti but the sauce tasted like plain tomato paste. We definitely struck out.
