A Day of Rest. Sort Of.
Day 13 – June 26, 2016
Sunday
Today was a rest day. There is no LDS church on
Koh Samui so we weren’t able to attend church. And we don’t have a car or
driver so the plan was to rest from our travels and just relax. We probably
should have done a better job at doing Sunday stuff but we did rest for most of
the day. We had an Indian Jones marathon movie day, watching all of the first
three movies! Calvin read an entire book. We caught up on a bit of journaling
and we swam in the pool to cool off. We had to. The heat is real. The AC is weak.
By the end of the day, I was feeling restless again.
Jeff and I walked down to the Family Mart to buy a few supplies we needed and I
saw a Muay Thai gym that offered daily walk-in classes. I knew the kids would
love it! Jeff wasn’t too thrilled to try martial arts at age 45, but he loves
me so he came along. It was actually tons of fun. And a killer workout. They
taught us how to punch, block, kick, etc. I mean, we are total beginners so it
was just the basics. But it actually made you feel powerful. Like maybe you
could defend yourself if you had to. The guys wore pads and had us actually
punch and kick and knee them as hard as we could. Then they would tell us to
drop and do sit ups while they stood on our feet and we did a 1-2 punch at the
top of each sit up. They worked us out pretty hard. We’re all a bit sore. So,
it wasn’t quite the day of rest it should have been but it was a memorable
experience that the kids absolutely loved!
That is the corner of the deck of our house on the left. It was the perfect little spot to spend a few days relaxing by the beach.
Our house in Koh Samui.
The beach in front of our place in Koh Samui. Not a great beach because there was a lot of coral and the water was only knee deep. But it is still such a beautiful spot.
The pool is perfect!
Hammocking.
