Travel Day
Day 12 – June 25, 2016
Saturday
Today
was a travel day. All day long we traveled. It stared with a 3 hour drive in
the back of a Songthaew, sliding down a muddy, dirt road winding through the
jungle. The last hour we were stuck in Chiang Mai traffic, anxious to not miss
our flight. We barely made it, running through the airport to get checked in in
time to board our flight. Next was a 2 hour flight to Surat Thani. Easy and
uneventful. We went straight to a 2 hour bus ride from the airport to the pier
where we caught an hour long ferry ride to the island of Koh Samui. Where we
were picked up by a van and driver to take us to our little house by the beach.
All of this travel was in dirty, jungle clothes with a makeshift jungle shower.
I am so glad we at least had Kate’s soap yesterday!
Our room at Spicy Villa. Kind of dumpy. I don't mind rustic but I like a little charm. This place was more of a hippie/single college student/youth hostel/dirty vibe. Not quite the best fit for our family, but at least we had a roof over our head during the pouring rain!
Our Songthaew (song-taow).
Calvin chillin' outside our rooms while we wait to go.
Kate is such a cutie. She has really grown-up a lot on this trip. Her and Kira have really bonded as sisters and I love it!
Crowded in the back of our songthaew for our 3 hour bumpy ride down the mountain.
Racing through the airport trying to find our gate in time so we don't miss our flight.
We made it to Surat Thani International Airport.
2 hour bus ride. Check.
Loading onto our catamaran ferry called the Lomprayah.
Grateful for calm weather during our ferry ride.
And finally loading into the van to take us to the house.
