Kauai - Day 3 - Sightseeing

This morning we went to church at the Hanalei Branch. It was a tiny little branch just a few minutes from our condo. The Branch presidency spoke today and talked about goals for the New Year. We were very impressed by the local leadership. It sure seems like they ran a pretty tight ship. I love going to church in different areas and seeing how we can show up to any Mormon church on a Sunday morning and feel like we're at home!

After church we went home to pack picnic lunches and headed out for our long, LONG, L O N G, drive around the island. We drove from Hanalei to Wamea Canyon lookout. Basically from one end of the road/island to the other. But it was really beautiful. Tom was our navigator and found us some beautiful scenic vistas overlooking amazing valleys and waterfalls! There were plenty of enormous cliffs for us to perch on to see the views and to make my heart beat out of my chest while keeping a death grip on my little boys. Okay, so that's a bit of an exaggeration but it still made me nervous. Those two boys get running and chasing each other and have no idea that just on the other side of the waist high fence is a thousand foot cliff.

We stopped in Kapaa for a little Shave Ice at Hee Fat Shave Ice. The macadamia nut ice cream was delicious. And the kids loved the sticky, sweet shaved ice.

The drive around the island and up the canyon made some of the kids carsick. Even some of the adults! ;) But nothing a little Coke couldn't help.

We didn't get back to the Condo until after 7pm. We had a late family dinner with the Tillmans with lasagna, texas toast, broccoli and fresh fruit salad. It felt good to sit down and have a real meal. Things are so expensive that we've resorted to a lot of snacking instead of meals. We ended the night with a family devotional and the kids were literally asleep within a minute of their heads hitting the pillow!

Tired and happy! :)
