Kauai - Day 4 - Let's Go Surfin' Now!

This morning we headed back to Hanalei Beach to try a little surfing. The beach was closed due to High Surf but after talking to the Lifeguards, we decided to stay but head down to the safer part of the beach. We walked down to the pier to rent surfboards from some very trusting locals. ("Just put the money on the seat of my truck and please don't bring it back sandy..."). It was $20 for the whole day. We surfed for nearly 4 hours. Everyone took a turn except Mikey and Avery. Everyone stood up, even if it was just for a second or two. It was really, really fun!

On the way back from surfing, the kids wanted to stop and swim at the pool. (The tide is turning...they used to be the ones who couldn't keep up. Now it's beginning to be me who tires out first!) The little boys and I swam for almost an hour at the pool. We went from doing cannonballs from under the waterfall to soaking in the hot tub and back and forth the entire time. It was really fun. I genuinely enjoyed spending time with those two: climbing up the waterfall, crouching underneath and jumping out into the refreshing pool. They decided they were "best buddies" and got along GREAT! That makes all the difference.

Tom and Elena had their "date" today so this afternoon all the kids crashed at our house for a while. They were pretty spent after surfing. But I can't stand to do nothing for longer than an hour or two so I made Jeff take the 5 older kids out on an adventure on the town and I stayed and took the 5 younger kids to the resort pool and then we came back and made egg mcmuffins for dinner.

Big kid adventure: Kapaa for gyros at the gyro cart. Football sized gyros. Hit a dog. Almost t-boned a truck - (truck ran a stop sign). Sketchy one way street. Kids felt like they had a true adventure!
